Michael Ackerman condividerà il proprio approccio alla fotografia visionario e impulsivo.
Il suo metodo abbandona la tradizione, non è una semplice cronaca di eventi.
Il ritmo delle sue fotografie è molto più vicino al cinema rispetto alla tradizionale fotografia documentaria: le immagini sono usate in sequenza, con formati differenti, esse appaiono “sbagliate” in quanto utilizzate come ponte per altre immagini. Il risultato è una composizione che non bada al luogo o al momento in cui sono state scattate, ma cerca di svelare la verità più emotiva e spirituale del soggetto.
“Il seminario di 3 giorni inizierà con una mia presentazione personale; mostrerò diversi lavori e spiegherò le storie che si celano dietro ogni fotografia, parlerò delle mie esperienze e infine esibirò le opere di artisti a me congeniali, anche se non famosi. I restanti due giorni li utilizzerò per analizzare le opere dei partecipanti, li aiuterò nella fase di editing e nella creazione di discussioni di gruppo in merito a ciascun lavoro.“
Lo scopo di questo laboratorio è di sfidare, ispirare e aiutare ciascuno ad immergersi più a fondo nel territorio che stiamo esplorando in quanto fotografi. Il fotografo è allo stesso tempo collegato e ammaliato dai suoi soggetti, qualsiasi essi siano: esiste un reale bisogno che lo spinge a fare il proprio lavoro, dedicarci molto tempo, esplorare, scavare, indagare.
Durante il laboratorio Michael si concentrerà sulle visioni, sulla curiosità e sensibilità di ogni partecipante. Lo scopo è fotografare ciò che si ama, ciò da cui si è ossessionati e spaventati. Si andrà alla ricerca dei significati e delle espressioni anziché della forma e della tecnica.
Dovremmo sentirci liberi di esplorare, sperimentare, infrangere le regole e addirittura rischiare con le nostre emozioni. Il tutto per avvicinarci un po’ di più a noi stessi.
Michael Ackerman will share with you his instinctive and visionary approach to photography. His method doesn’t follow tradition, it is not a simple chronicle of events.
The pace of his photography is closer to cinematography than traditional documentary photography: images used in sequences, different formats, pictures that appear «wrong», images used as links between other images; all used to compose an essay that does not value where or when the pictures were made but rather attempts to capture a deeper emotional and spiritual truth of the subject.
“A 3 day workshop would start with me presenting myself on the first day. I would show a lot of different work and tell the stories behind the pictures and speak about my experiences and show the work of other photographers who I admire but might not be so well known. On the next 2 days I would look at the different participants work, help them edit and lead group discussions about each person’s work.”
The goal of this workshop is to challenge, inspire and help each other get deeper into the territory that we are exploring as photographers. The point is that the photographer is truly connected and intrigued by their subjects, whatever they may. That there is a real need for the photographers to do the work they are doing, that they dedicate a lot of time to it, that they really explore, dig, and question.
In the workshop Michael will focus on each individual’s vision, curiosity and sensibility. The point is to photograph what you love, what obsesses you, what you fear. We will search for meaning and expression, rather than form and technique. We should feel free to search, experiment, break borders, make mistakes, take emotional risks, all in the goal of getting closer to ourselves.
